New academic year started this Monday across the country. Auditorium doors are open to students in all universities of Albania. Although the first 3 rounds of the registration phases have been closed, the free phase now follows, where each student can register in the branch that has free quotas.
The first 3 phases highlighted the problems with study programs that have no applicants.
In Shkodër, the rector of the university “Luigj Gurakuqi” says that there are no closures of branches, but no activation. But the truth is different. In this faculty there are 10 study programs that have no more than 5 applicants.
This new academic year, 1500 new students have been registered at the University of Durrës “Aleksandër Moisiu”. 3 are the branches that register the lowest number of students, which also risk closure.
The problem at the University of Elbasan “Aleksandër Xhuvani” is even bigger, as there are 15 branches that are in danger of being closed.
Meanwhile, the University of Korça has another specificity at the beginning of this academic year. Two programs are at risk of closure, but on the other hand, the mathematics, physics and informatics programs, due to the low number, will be the senate that will decide on their continuation or not.
Even in other universities in the country, in Vlora, Gjirokastër, remains the same problem, where some branches have no demand, while what is massively noticed is the high demand for the branches of medicine and general nursing.
