The former Prosecutor of Serious Crimes, Elisabeta Imeraj, says that every prosecutor is independent to carry out an investigation regarding January 21, referring to the published audio recording, where the former commander of the guard, Ndrea Prendi, communicated and gave orders to subordinates his.

During Euronews Albania’s “Review” with Jonida Shehu, Imeraj said that this can be done, based on the changes made in the Code of Criminal Procedure.

“With the changes in the Criminal Procedure Code, every prosecutor is independent. As such, an independent prosecutor also has the right, since yesterday when the audio recording came out, to mainly start an investigation and say that in the totality of the elements that happened in the incident of January 21,  this specific chain of events remained uninvestigated. It is not necessary to make this entire exposition. There is no need to present to the public a justice that holds a file hostage. We simply cannot say that even in the year 2023, we are still being held hostage,” she emphasized.
