Private companies can manage waste landfills on site. A new draft law paves the way for the creation of new landfills, but the costs for their construction and operation will be covered by the private sector for a term of up to 30 years.
The draft is in consultation, and among other things, it aims to regulate this field from the start, with the differentiation of waste at the source, and then their processing, through recycling or burning in an incinerator.
But, first, the municipalities should be the ones who will adjust the mechanism, for the differentiated collection in several containers, and then open the roads for their transport to the landfills that will be opened.
Private individuals can show interest in this industry, which can be profitable, but to go as far as waste differentiation, mass education of the population and businesses is also needed.
In the draft, it is written that this legal practice is also followed in the European Union, in which Albania expects to become a member, but that in the field of waste, in recent years, it has faced a series of scandals and affairs which have not received a final answer from justice.
