Over the last 24 hours, authorities reported 11 new cases after testing more than 3,430 citizens, taking the number of active cases to 160.

Currently, only six patients are receiving medical treatment at the Infective Diseases Hospital in the capital.

Albania has not recorded any coronavirus-related deaths since June 26, another indicator of the positive and stabilized epidemiological situation.

The virus has claimed the lives of 2,456 citizens from the beginning of the pandemic.

On Monday, all citizens older than 18 can go to a vaccination site and get the COVID-19 jab as part of a nationwide immunization campaign.

“Might be heading toward total reopening”

In an interview for Euronews Albania, deputy health minister Mira Rakacolli, warned that new infections have been rising since July 1, but did not signal that authorities are considering toughening measures again.

“We have a slight increase in new infections compared to the period before July 1, but it is within the manageable figures and less than what was expected after relaxing measures and increased activities from tourism”, declared Rakacolli.

Although Albania might soon confirm the presence of the Delta strain, the deputy minister asserted that if the situation remains stable, the country might go toward lifting all measures.

“If we have stable figures we will head toward a total reopening, but if cases soar we will have to take restrictive measures”, concluded Rakacolli.
