The EU Ambassador to Tirana Christiane Hohmann says that without the justice reform, there can be no European integration for Albania.
Speaking at the 110th anniversary of the Supreme Court, she emphasized that the reform must ensure transparency and high integrity.
“Our message is clear: There is no EU integration without a successful justice reform in Albania. It’s been a long process and it’s still not over. We are in a critical moment, because key justice institutions have just recently been created or recreated. The reform must create deep roots. Transparency and high integrity are sought. The vetting process goes forward, but when it ends, the institutions must keep the vetting spirit high and preserve its standards. Members of the councils are expected to act in accordance with the clear aspects related to their work, because they hold the future of Albania’s membership in the EU. Better justice starts with dealing with the issues at hand. Justice delayed is justice denied. EU integration asks for commitment to these values and for a more efficient and independent judiciary,” said the ambassador during her speech.
