Albania is no longer in a high COVID-19 state alert.
The update came during today’s plenary session, as health minister Ogerta Manastirliu reported a lower incidence rate, currently at 27 cases per 100.000 inhabitants, as well fewer patients in hospital care.
“Based on epidemiological data our country is no longer on a high alert. We have a low incidence rate, at 26.6 cases per 100.000 inhabitants”, said minister Manastirliu.
Fast vaccination rates are among the factors that have led to a drop in daily new infections, and according to the health minister, all the vaccines being used in Albania have shown efficiency.
“The common denominator for every vaccine is the same, vaccines lower drastically severe cases as well as fatalities from COVID-19”, added Manastirliu.
According to estimates, 4.4 million doses are needed to cover the entire adult population.
Until now, the Albanian government has contract half of that amount needed to immunize the population.
The COVID-19 vaccines being administered in Albania are Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Coronavac, and Sputnik V.
At the moment, Albania is leading the vaccination campaign in Europe.
According to official data that “Our World in Data” has collected for all countries, Albania has administered 0.61 doses per 100 people, leaving behind countries like Belgium, Sweden, France, and Austria, which are also running at a fast pace in terms of inoculating their entire population.
