The U.S. Embassy in Albania has reacted after the election of Altin Dumani as the new head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK).
Through an announcement on social media, the embassy congratulated Dumani and emphasized that it expects to work not only with him but also with the other two candidates who were in the race, Adnan Xholi and Edvin Kondili.
Among other things, the embassy underlined that the work of SPAK must continue to demonstrate that no one is above the law and that the time of impunity is over.
Altin Dumani has been elected the new head of SPAK. Dumani got 5 votes, meanwhile, Edvin Kondili got 4 votes, and Adnan Xholi, 1 vote. 1 of the 11 KLP members who voted for the election of the new head of SPAK was missing from the hall. Dumani, who will take the place of Arben Kraja as of Monday, December 19, will be in charge of SPAK for the next 3 years.
“The U.S. Embassy congratulates Altin Dumani on his election as SPAK Chief Prosecutor. All three candidates – Mr. Dumani, Adnan Xholi, and Edvin Kondili – are highly qualified and deserve full respect for their efforts. We look forward to continuing to work closely with all of them.
We express our deep appreciation to Arben Kraja for his leadership and dedication as the first SPAK Chief Prosecutor. He has laid a firm foundation on which his successors can build,” – read the statement of the US embassy posted on Facebook.
