The number of new COVID-19 cases in our country is twice as high, when compared to the figures reported during the same period last year.
Yesterday, a total of 397 new cases were recorded, whereas one year ago this number was 154. When comparing the figures logged in this week with the ones recorded during the same week last year, we can see that there was an increasing trend last August as well, but the rate was twice as low.
This twofold increase in new daily cases has also contributed to more patients being admitted to hospital. Doctors say that the majority of patients are unvaccinated and that they range mainly in the age-groups from 25-35 years old, but elderly unvaccinated patients are also being reported.
To date, there have been no changes to the current protocol of measures put in place in hospitals around the country – something that would help in presenting a clear plan, in terms of how the situation will be tackled in advance, or in case any of the previous restrictive measures will come back into force if things get progressively worse.
In Kosovo and North Macedonia, authorities have announced the implementation of several new measures, while the number of new infections there is also higher, compared to our country.
