The US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, James O’Brien, met with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in the Kosovo executive building on October 21.
In advance, the Government has not given details about this meeting, which started at 15:00.
Earlier in the day, the American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier welcomed O’Brien on his first visit to Kosovo, and said that together with him they will discuss bilateral issues with Kosovo officials and reiterate the commitment of United States for the people of Kosovo.
The day before, in Belgrade, O’Brien met with the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic.
After this meeting, the Serbian leader said that the meeting with the American official focused on “the political solution in the region, the current situation in Kosovo and the strengthening of cooperation in many fields”.
Regarding Kosovo, Vučić said that he expressed “deep concern about the challenges that the Serbian population faces every day”, adding that he expressed readiness to find solutions for stability in the Western Balkans. Vucic also said that he hopes that the dynamics of dialogue and regional cooperation “will continue with the support of the USA and the European Union”.
As for the dialogue, O’Brien, in an interview for the Serbian public broadcaster published on October 21, said that he wants all agreements reached to be respected.
He said that the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority is an “important step”, but asked that progress be made even before the establishment of the Association.
