The new oil subsidy scheme has brought chaos among farmers. Apart from the fact that the application is done online, they will need to have an account in the second tier banks to receive the money. The opening of accounts has also created long queues at the doors of banks in Berat.

“12 dynym, every year, last year I applied and this year too. Only in the bank here you can’t get an account number. Ee don’t even know anything at all, they say they will give money not oil, we don’t know anything yet”, says a farmer.

Delays at the banks’ doors, according to farmers, are penalizing them from completing the application to benefit from the subsidy on time.

Unlike previous years, this year the farmers will not withdraw oil, but will be subsidized with lek, amount which is calculated according to a scheme referring to the table for oil consumption norms, where the benefit value is calculated according to crops.
