Kosovo is preparing for a broad cycle of infrastructure investments in preparation for the Mediterranean Games 2030, which are expected to mark a major turning point for sport in the country.
Responsible institutions have presented plans and implementation timelines for key projects, including the construction of new sports facilities, the reconstruction and modernization of existing infrastructure, and the creation of conditions necessary to host a high-level international sporting event.
Speaking about the value and scope of the investments, Bislim Bislimi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MKRS), outlined for KosovaPress the key infrastructure areas that will receive investment during 2026.
Meanwhile, the President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Ismet Krasniqi, stressed that time is the critical factor, and that 2026 must mark the concrete start of sports infrastructure construction.
“It is mandatory that work begins in 2026, because we no longer have time. Sports facilities require time for design, construction, and becoming operational. This takes time, and we have no time to lose. 2026 must be the decisive year for launching new facilities that are planned, as well as for improving or reconstructing existing ones,” Krasniqi said.
On the other hand, Musa Selimi, President of the Federation of University Sports, emphasized that progress so far and international support show that Kosovo is on the right path. He noted that hosting the Mediterranean Games will be a historic moment for Kosovar sport.
The Mediterranean Games are among the largest multi-sport events in the world, bringing together countries from Europe, Africa, and Asia across the Mediterranean basin. The Games are held every four years under the umbrella of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games.
For Kosovo, the 2030 edition is not only a sporting event but a strategic national project, aimed at long-term infrastructure development, strengthening organizational capacity, and enhancing the country’s international image—leaving a lasting legacy for athletes and the sporting community long after the Games conclude.
