“Lucia di Lammermoor” by the composer Gaetano Donizetti returns after 16 years to the National Theater of Opera and Ballet. The opera brought the internationally renowned soprano, Jessica Pratt, to the stage.
Lucia’s shocking story combines forbidden love, betrayal and the fight for freedom. An independent woman who fought against the patriarchal society and who lost her place because she could not submit to the rules of the time.
With an original concept, the show is staged by director Ada Gurra.
“This work started as it always starts, 3-4 weeks before. We did very intensive work with all the soloists”, said director Gurra.
The opera brings for the first time to Albania the artist of world stages, Jessica Pratt, who has performed the role of Lucia over 100 times.
“The role of Lucia is very important to me. ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ is a very specific opera, that it is difficult to find, not only who will play the role of Lucia, but also all the other actors, that all the characters are very specific and individual and to find the actors right is quite difficult. I was lucky enough to find a wonderful cast, not only in terms of the way of singing, but also the way of acting”, said Jessica Pratt.
Based on a true event that scandalized 17th century Scotland, this story is just as relevant today.
Gaetano Donizzeti’s masterpiece under the direction of maestro Jacopo Sipari and Dritan Lumshi, will be shown at the Opera and Ballet Theater until December 16.
