At 5:00 PM, the latest opposition-led protest is expected to begin outside the Prime Minister’s Office. Euronews Albania has obtained images of today’s protest slogan, announced several weeks ago by Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha. The slogan reads “Down” and depicts the head of government shown upside down.
Meanwhile, the State Police have taken measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the national protest.
According to sources for Euronews Albania, more than 1,000 police officers are expected to be deployed on the ground and on standby. In addition to regular police forces, the National Security Forces and the RENEA special unit will also be present, along with plainclothes officers. Police officers will also be equipped with gas masks against tear gas.
Starting from 12:00 AM, vehicle parking has been banned until the end of the gathering along “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, from the area known as “Ura e Dajtit” to “Ismail Qemali” Street.
From 3:00 PM until the conclusion of the protest, vehicle traffic will be blocked on “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, from the intersection near the Ministry of Interior to “Mother Teresa” Square, as well as on “Ukraina e Lirë”, “Pope John Paul II” and “Ismail Qemali” streets.
