The Assembly of Kosovo convened on Monday, upon a request from the Democratic Party, to assess the first 100 days of Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s government.
However, Vetevendosje, Albin Kurti’s party, requested to change the parliament’s order of the day.
However, prior to debating for the government’s performance, the parliament decided to vote for the new speaker, two board members for the Energy Regulatory Office as well as elect three members of the Independent Media Commission.
For this reason, the three main opposition parties, namely the Democratic Party (PDK), Democratic League (LDK), and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) walked out of the Assembly. Prior to leaving the plenary session, Ferat Shala from PDK called the entire process “illegitimate”.
“Today we are subduing to a totally illegitimate administrative and judicial process. Today we are acceding to the pressure of the parliamentary majority and violating every procedure, ethics and principles”, he said.
Despite the walkout, MPs voted for the chair, and members of the Energy Regulatory Office, but did not succeed in choosing the three members of the Independent Media Commission.
