Orthodox believers in Korça have celebrated Saint Ristozi in the hundreds-year-old church in Mborje.

The symbolism of this holiday is the ascension of Jesus Christ to heaven, after he stayed with his disciples 40 days after the resurrection, while the believers throw the eggs of the previous year, which they have been keeping all year at home and also for 5 weeks every Thursday prepare traditional dishes such as cabbage with nettles.

Believers show the special features of this holiday.

“It is God’s ascension to heaven, happy and good, may God give you health. Today is traditional to cook ‘lakror’, it’s Thursday, 5 Thursdays after the crucifixion of Christ we cook ‘lakror’,” said a woman.

“We believe wholeheartedly in this day. The holiday has remained and is celebrated throughout life. Today it is cooked, it is Thursday 4, it is cooked ‘lakror’ with greens. I wish health and prosperity to all Albanians,” said another.

More than 60% of the population in the city of Korça are Orthodox believers who celebrate Saint Ristozi.
