Albania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Olta Xhacka received on Tuesday the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, and Swedish counterpart Ann Linde.

Linde commended the Albanian government for its contribution during the OSCE Presidency, adding that Sweden endorses Albania’s integration to the European Union.

“We welcome the progress you’ve made and we encourage you for more”, said the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.

In addition, Linde praised the composition of the new government cabinet which is predominantly run by women, stressing that “gender equality is a prerequisite for sustainable security”.

In a joint press conference, minister Xhacka described the visit of Linde in Albania as an “important indicator of OSCE’s attention in the region”, and emphasized the progress made by the Western Balkan countries in several fields, including development and cooperation, but added that there is some ambiguity from the EU on the integration process.

Xhacka expressed Albania’s willingness to share its experience with Sweden on the OSCE presidency, and emphasized that Albania is an “incontestable proof of transformation from multilateral engagement”.

OSCE chair Ann Linde is currently on a visit to Albania to mainly discuss topics pertaining to multilateralism, regional security, ongoing reforms, as well as gender equality.
