President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, represented Kosovo at the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit held in Tirana.
Following the summit, Osmani shared a statement on social media, thanking Albania’s President Bajram Begaj for his hospitality and leadership during this high-level regional gathering.

In her message, Osmani emphasized that EU enlargement is not an act of charity but a strategic investment in Europe’s own security, stability, and future.
She stressed that the time has come for the EU to take concrete and deserved steps toward Kosovo, including the removal of what she described as unjust sanctions and the granting of candidate status for EU membership.

According to Osmani, Kosovo’s strategic orientation is unwavering and clear: toward the European Union and NATO, as a natural part of the Euro-Atlantic family.
“The citizens of Kosovo must not be held hostage by measures that directly harm them and serve neither peace, nor dialogue, nor the European future of our region,” she stated.

Osmani reiterated her call for the EU to lift the sanctions currently imposed on Kosovo.
“I proposed that a paragraph addressing this issue be included, because even EU member states present at the summit—as well as many countries from the region—are not against it. Naturally, Albania is one of the strongest advocates for lifting the measures. But, as expected, Serbia opposed even this issue, which at its core is political, but in reality is humanitarian, as it involves projects that directly impact the lives of our citizens,” Osmani said following the SEECP Summit in Tirana.

Full statement by President Vjosa Osmani:

“Thank you to President Begaj for the warm hospitality and leadership at this high-level summit of Southeast European leaders in Tirana.

During my address, I emphasized that the enlargement of the European Union is not a charitable process, but a strategic investment in Europe’s security, stability, and future.

Therefore, it is time for the EU to move forward with concrete and deserved decisions for Kosovo, including lifting unjust measures and granting candidate status for our country.

The citizens of Kosovo must not be held hostage by measures that directly harm them and serve neither peace, nor dialogue, nor the European future of our region.

Kosovo’s orientation is clear and unwavering: toward the EU and NATO, as a natural part of the Euro-Atlantic family.”
