Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, said that the U.S. administration has done a good job in preventing an escalation of tensions between Kosovo and Serbia, but emphasized that Belgrade continues to pose a constant threat to Pristina.

In an interview with Fox News, Osmani was asked whether Kosovo and Serbia were on the verge of conflict in June. Osmani replied that Kosovo’s northern neighbor “likes to cause trouble from time to time.”

She said that Serbia in the past, under the leadership of Slobodan Milošević, was responsible for a series of conflicts, and even now, according to her, Serbia’s leadership still includes people “who like to cling to the past and drag us all back into it, while we want to look toward the future.”

“President [Donald] Trump helped us a lot in supporting peace, in maintaining peace, and in saving lives,” Osmani said.

The President of Kosovo added that in recent years there have been a series of tensions with Serbia, including the Banjska attack in 2023, when a group of armed Serbs attacked the Kosovo Police, killing a sergeant. Kosovo blames Serbia for the incident, but Belgrade denies involvement.

“We managed to repel that with the support of our NATO allies. Nevertheless, there is an ongoing threat that comes from Serbia. Last May, undoubtedly, there was another attempt at tension, if I can call it that, and this administration has done a wonderful job in preventing it from escalating,” Osmani said.

Osmani expressed her support for Trump’s policy of “peace through strength,” as she believes this is the only message that autocrats understand.

In recent months, President Trump has repeatedly stated that he prevented an escalation between Kosovo and Serbia. Osmani confirmed the American leader’s statements, saying that in May there had been intelligence about Serbia’s actions along the border with Kosovo.
