President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani met today with the newly elected Speaker of the Assembly, Dimal Basha, to discuss the recent events surrounding the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo.
According to a statement from the Presidency’s Office, Speaker Basha presented his position on the constitution of the Assembly. President Osmani informed him that the Presidency’s legal team is currently reviewing the process of the Assembly’s constitution.
“The President emphasized that, as always, she will act in full compliance with the Constitution and the applicable laws, guaranteeing institutional stability and respect for the will of the citizens of Kosovo,” the statement reads.
The issue comes after Saturday’s failed attempt to elect a deputy speaker from the Serb community. None of the Serb representatives in parliament secured the required majority, leading Speaker Basha to close the session without completing the election of all deputy speakers.
Opposition parties, however, argued that without this step, the Assembly of Kosovo has not been fully constituted, sparking a debate over the legality of the process.
The matter now rests with constitutional and institutional interpretation, with President Osmani signaling that the Presidency will carefully assess the situation to ensure legality and stability.
