“It’s worth living”, the awareness campaign for early detection of breast cancer has ended. 12,701 women across the country had mammograms during October. About 1200 of them have resulted in suspicious formations”.

“In order to reach the final diagnosis, we must go through several links in the health protocol process to correctly identify whether we have a formation, precancerous, cancerous or advanced forms of cancer.
After being identified by the radiologist technician or doctor, the answer goes to the woman and the family doctor to then refer the lady to the referral process to follow up to the final diagnosis. We have reached the level of 10-11% of cases to be referred to the referral system”, said Eugena Tomini, director of Institute of Public Health.

Catching breast cancer in time, according to doctors, would lead to 100% recovery of every woman who catches it in the early stages, so it is thought that the penetration will continue throughout the year.

“Therefore, we call on all ladies not to perform mammography only in October, but to perform it throughout the year”, said Tomini.

But at what ages should mammograms be performed and when should breast check-ups begin?

“To follow the recommendation of specialist doctors to perform mammography when necessary. We emphasize that it is performed once every 2 years for women over 50 years old. From the age of 20-40, a breast examination with health personnel, a self-examination”, said the director of Institute of Public Health.

In order to catch every case of breast cancer in time, the Ministry of Health has designed another screening program, for the whole year, every woman will have the opportunity, based on the calendar already drawn up, to perform mammography without a referral system and for free.
