On Monday, Albania is set to receive a batch of over 50,000 Pfizer vaccines, confirmed health minister Ogerta Manastirliu.

Now, health authorities are urging students to get the COVID-19 shot as the new academic year approaches.

So far, Albania has received 1.7 million vaccine doses, while 1.2 million citizens have been injected with at least one of the doses.

The country has mainly relied on its vaccination drive from four manufacturers, namely Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, and Sinovac.

Given that in between vaccine shots there is a requirement for a 3-4 weeks interval, minister Manastirliu appealed on students to get injected in order to lower the risk of getting severe symptoms from the potentially deadly virus.

Starting from August 1, all citizens are eligible to get the COVID-19 shot by going to their nearest local health clinic or at the central vaccination site found at the center of Tirana.
