In the capital, parking is turning into a mission impossible, while traffic is increasing the stress level. The large flow of vehicles, construction sites and the narrowing of roads with bicycle lanes are creating obstacles even in dedicated public and private parking lots.
Today Tirana counts 319 thousand cars, of which 35,600 have entered this year alone. This number requires at least an area of 1.3 square km for parking spaces, which is added every day with the import of other cars.
It takes an average of 45 minutes to cross the capital from corner to corner. On urban roads, buses move at a speed of 11 km per hour, while in international practices the standard is 15 km per hour.
Another problem for the capital is the stock of cars that have not been driven for years and those that are used by businesses for sale or rent. For the former, neither the municipality nor the police have a legal solution to take measures. As for rental cars, the measures taken against businesses in many cases are not accompanied by their removal.
