On Thursday, the Parliament approved draft decisions to extend the validity of expired identity cards for the diaspora, as well as expired passports for citizens living abroad.

The draft decision on identity cards for the diaspora was approved with 76 votes in favor, while the second draft decision, related to passports, was approved with 75 votes in favor and 1 against.

The validity period will be extended for electronic ID cards and travel passports, allowing Albanian citizens with expired documents to exercise their right to vote in the parliamentary elections on May 11, 2025.

Albanians living abroad will have the opportunity to register until March 4, 2025, to vote by mail in the upcoming elections.
