The new Minister of Defence, Ermal Nufi, reacted for the first time to his new role through a post on Facebook, after Parliament approved the changes in the government.
Nufi was approved with 83 votes in favour, 0 abstentions and 6 votes against. He was present at the plenary session and shared images from Parliament.
Among other things, Nufi wrote that the Ministry of Defence is a great responsibility. He thanked Prime Minister Edi Rama for the position, as well as the members of Parliament for their vote of confidence.
The minister stressed that he will carry out the duty with integrity and dedication in service of the country’s security and the strengthening of Albania’s role in its strategic alliance.
Nufi’s statement
“Homeland • Security • Alliance.
It is a great honour, but above all an extraordinary responsibility, to be entrusted with leading a ministry in a government. When this responsibility is the Ministry of Defence, its weight becomes even greater, because this is where the nation’s security is built, peace is guaranteed and Albania’s dignity is strengthened in the Euro-Atlantic Alliance.
The Ministry of Defence is not simply a state institution. It is the place where patriotism, dedication and sacrifice in service of the country take shape every day. It is the institution where the work and commitment of men and women in uniform are directly linked to the security, stability and future of every Albanian citizen.
I thank Prime Minister Edi Rama for the trust he has given me to serve the Homeland in such a high office. At the same time, I thank the members of the Parliament of Albania for their vote of confidence and support.
I take on this responsibility with humility and determination, committed to exercising this duty with full integrity and unwavering dedication in the service of the country’s security and in strengthening Albania’s role in our strategic alliance,” Minister Nufi wrote.
