Over 160 citizens have decided to sue the Socialist Party over the misuse of their personal information, in regards to the long list of citizens’ names and personal details that was leaked on the internet, a few months ago.
The lawsuit was filed this afternoon at the Special Structure Against Corruption known as SPAK, by the youth organization ‘Guxo’ meaning ‘Dare’ which has offered to represent all of them. Through this lawsuit, the civil group asks the following:
- Acknowledge the illegality of the collection, processing and publication of data by SP;
- Delete all personal data on computers, servers, telephones and other electronic devices owned by SP;
- Penalize SP through administrative sanctions;
“The youth consider the collection, processing and publication of their data to be unacceptable, and their only aim was the party’s electoral interests,” wrote ‘Guxo’ NGO through a communication for the press.
The case known as the ‘List of Patrons’ sparked debates during the entire course of April, after getting leaked on the portal Lapsi.al, led by journalists Andi Bushati and Armand Shkullaku, who insisted that the list has been compiled by SP.
The list contained the names of voters, their personal information like ID card digits, location, place of birth, workplace, vote preference, and in some cases there were even specifications like applications or requests for favors.
The political availability, when it came to this sensitive data, was widely condemned by the general public as an abuse of data management by state institutions, which usually are the one that possess this level of personal information.
SP has never admitted to have any connections with the list leaked on the press. However, on several public appearances, Edi Rama has taken the side of the so-called ‘patrons’, who according to socialists are just members that volunteer to collect data for the party’s electoral database.
