Prime Minister Edi Rama has commented on the investigation launched by SPAK regarding a €6 million lobbying effort in the US by the Democratic Party.
During a meeting with women and girls in Vlora, Rama said that spending €6 million is excessive and compared it to a previous case, where, according to him, former PD leader Lulzim Basha was at the center of accusations over €500,000.
The Prime Minister emphasized that now €6 million are being spent solely to remove the stigma of a person who has been banned from entering several Western countries.
“It is not at all an exaggeration to talk about the catastrophe that struck Vlora that year and which still has deep consequences. The same hand that caused that wound is now seeking the votes of Albanians for his personal interests. And I believe that you, those of you here and those following this confrontation, may be surprised by the fact that a full €6 million has reportedly been paid by so-called patriots to remove the ‘non grata’ status of a person. You may remember that last time, Luli was torn to shreds for €500,000, and he claimed that some patriots had gathered the money. But €6 million to remove the ‘non grata’ label is a lot of money not to ask where it came from. How can it be that for the troubles of a single individual, more money is spent than the state allocates to all political parties combined? It is also strange that earlier they told us that once Trump returned, the ‘non grata’ status would be lifted. Now, apparently, €6 million are needed with the hope that this will happen. Nevertheless, this issue is not what concerns the overwhelming majority of Albanians, who today are at a historic moment where they must make an important and right decision for the future of their country,” Rama said.
