The government is looking for alternatives to increase the low pensions at a faster rate. For this reason, a new scheme is being worked on, where the indexation is not the same for everyone.

Pensions increase at the pace of market prices every year, but this scheme does not benefit the welfare of pensioners. For this reason, the government is working with the World Bank to find a solution, where the elderly who benefit from lower payments, receive a higher supplement.

Minister of Finance, Ervin Mete adds that a part of the 2014 scheme will also be reviewed.

Albania has a pension system based on the payments of compulsory social security contributions, and in these moments opportunities are being seen to also establish a system of voluntary payments, which enable more dignified pensions in the future.
