Prime Minister Edi Rama awarded the Great Cordon with the Star of Public Appreciation to former Prime Minister Fatos Nano.

Through a post on Facebook, Rama writes that Nano is in a difficult moment, struggling with life in the hospital and in these difficult hours he deserves everyone’s prayers and gratitude for what he has given to Albanian society.

In these difficult hours of the struggle for life, the historical leader of the Socialist Party and the man who turned the unjust suffering of deprivation of freedom into the source of a liberal spirit in leadership, at a time when Albania faced the wild ugliness of a political conflict driven by the spirit of revenge, ignorance, darkness and the boundless ferocity of a great historical leap, from extreme communist isolation to democracy as an overwhelming ordeal, in a land scorched by the fire and iron of successive empires and regimes – the other since the independence of Albania, where the institutional status of the state could never grow and where the freedom that came with the fury of popular anger brought with it the light of the future the terrible wounds of the destruction of many things in the name of the fight for democracy, today deserves our prayers and our gratitude for all the good he was able to give to the country and society in the heavy roles he had during his career with its ups and downs”, writes Rama on Facebook.

Former Prime Minister Fatos Nano has been admitted to a public hospital in Tirana for several days after pulmonary issues.
