Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted for the first time regarding the SPAK order for the arrest of former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj.

In a communication to public opinion, Rama said that the need for a deep reform in justice has been persistently sought by him and his government, with the aim of finally overthrowing the old system.

Rama said that he will not agree with anyone who abuses the trust of the citizens and his trust to enrich himself.

According to Rama, his goal was to finally overthrow the old justice system.

“I cannot agree with anyone who abuses this trust by turning the mandate of the Albanians and my trust into impermissible opportunities to fill their pockets. I am ready to carry the mud that the opponents throw at me, but I have never been and will never carry anyone who remembers the big house on the back of a horse who can ride it,” said Rama.

Ahmetaj’s case, he said, is now up to SPAK to prove whether he is guilty or innocent

“Unlike all other success stories and politics, this story is difficult to tell as a success. Arben Ahmetaj is not an unknown person and not a distant person for me, he is one of the collaborators with whom I have worked the most, I have spoken to him the most on the phone.

It is not up to me to say whether he is guilty or innocent, but unlike a case years ago, where we were convinced that the prosecution’s request had to be rejected, and so we did today, the authorization requested by SPAK was necessary. This time we were presented with a voluminous investigative file, it is up to justice to decide whether he is guilty or innocent”, said Rama.
