The police have increased patrol checks on the road in order to monitor that safety standards are met and punish violators that are breaking them.

As a result, in the last 24 hours:

  • 39 licenses have been suspended due to speeding (from 98 km/h in residential areas and 163 km/h on inter-urban roads)
  • 261 fines due to speeding (127 km/h on max 90 km/h roads), starting from 60 000- 120 000 ALL
  • 312 fines due to wrong overpasses
  • 221 fines due to cell phone use while driving
  • 233 fines due to lack of seatbelts
  • 87 fines due to lack of helmets
  • 9 arrests (6 citizens found to be driving under the influence, 3 found driving without a license)
  • 32 licenses suspended due to driving under the influence
  • 72 fines due to driving under the influence

Seeing that there’s still a lot of influx going to and from coastal cities, the police are calling on citizens to drive carefully and not risk the lives and safety of others while on the road.

“We have set up patrols with radars, drones, cameras and breathalysers across all the main national axes, starting from the Nation’s Road all the way to Saranda, from Korca to Berat, as well as all the main urban centres,” – states the police notice.
