The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), Ali Ahmeti, reacted to the passing of former Prime Minister Fatos Nano through a post on Facebook.

Ahmeti expressed his condolences, describing Nano as a man of vision and political wisdom.

“With deep sorrow I received the news of the passing of my old friend and comrade during difficult times, Fatos Nano.

We were bound by friendship, cooperation and mutual respect, born in times of challenge when our shared ideals for freedom, democracy and development guided us.

Fatos was a man of vision, courage and political wisdom — a personality who left an indelible mark on Albania’s modern history.

In these moments of grief, I express my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all those who loved and respected him.

May he rest in peace, my friend Fatos Nano. His memory will live on forever,” Ahmeti wrote.

Former Prime Minister of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj also expressed his condolences, calling Nano a key contributor to the Albanian national cause during times of crisis both within and beyond Albania’s borders.

“Condolence message. With sadness I received the news of the death of Albania’s former Prime Minister, Mr. Fatos Nano.

On behalf of myself and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, I extend my sincere condolences to the Nano family, relatives, Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Socialist Party of Albania and all Albanians.

Gratitude for his leadership and visionary role — a key contributor to the Albanian cause in times of crisis, both inside and outside Albania’s borders.

May he rest in peace,” Haradinaj wrote.

The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, expressed his condolences, emphasizing that Nano modernized both Albania and the Socialist Party.

“Today we lost Chairman Nano. We will always remember the first leader of the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, for his decisive contribution over 14 years, during which the party never strayed from the gravity of national interest — a principle that became the unwavering line of our political conduct, making our party unique in Albania.

Fatos Nano modernized Albania by modernizing the party itself.

Thank you for the opportunity you gave me to learn so much from you.

Rest in peace, Chief,” Balla wrote.

Socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri said that Nano revived Albania during difficult times and transformed the Socialist Party into a modern and progressive political force.

“With his liberal model, he led the Socialist Party and Albania’s left as a whole, turning it into a healthy, modern and progressive political force.

As head of government, Fatos Nano guided the country through challenging moments, when the state needed to be rebuilt from its knees.

A man of strong battles and firm decisions, as well as of compromise and dialogue — the most effective tools of politics.

My sincere condolences to his family, friends and admirers,” Gjiknuri wrote.

Former Minister of Education and Sports Lindita Nikolla also reacted, saying that Nano will be remembered for his vision, courage and role in shaping the modern left.

“Farewell, Fatos Nano.

With sorrow I learned the news of his passing — a distinguished personality, founder and historic leader of the Socialist Party, who left an indelible mark on Albanian politics.

Fatos Nano will be remembered for his vision, courage and his role in building a modern left and in Albania’s European path.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May he never be forgotten,” Nikolla wrote.

The Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi called Nano the architect of Albania’s political transformation, who built the new left on the solid foundations of European social democracy.

“Farewell, Fatos Nano!

Moments ago, Fatos Nano passed away — the politician who dominated an entire era of Albania’s political life, founder and visionary leader of the Socialist Party until 2005.

For me personally, Fatos Nano remains the figure who opened the doors of politics for me, entrusting me with my first public responsibility — a call to a new generation to build together the Albania we all dreamed of.

He had that rare ability to give others the space to prove themselves in service of the country.

But his figure goes beyond any personal experience.

For Albanian politics, he was the modern leader who brought a genuine European spirit to our public life — the intellectual who spoke the language of ideas, the liberal who believed in individual freedom and economic development, and the convinced Europeanist who saw Albania’s future only within the great European family.

At a time when many still thought with the mindset of the past, he spoke of the future.

For Albania’s left, Fatos Nano was the architect of historic transformation.

He built the new left on the solid foundations of European social democracy, achieving what once seemed almost impossible — keeping it alive at a time when the thread holding it together was incredibly thin.

He had the courage to break dogmas, the vision to look beyond immediate crises, and the strength to build a political movement capable of governing and modernizing the country.

History will judge his contribution fairly.

For those of us who had the privilege to know him, listen to him and work alongside him, Albania has lost one of the greatest figures of its post-communist politics.

Unforgettable, Fatos Nano,” Peleshi wrote.
