The CDI Assembly, during its proceedings in São Paulo, has approved the fifth resolution regarding the political situation in Albania. The Democratic Party (DP) announced the approval of the resolution, emphasizing that it raises alarm about democracy in the country, the concentration of power in the hands of the government, and the infiltration of organized crime into public institutions.

According to the DP’s statement, the document highlights that the May 11 elections, according to OSCE/ODIHR, were characterized by massive misuse of public resources, vote-buying, intimidation, and selective justice, undermining a free and fair competition.

The CDI warned that state capture, control over justice institutions, obstruction of parliamentary investigative committees, and the influence of crime on the economy and elections bring Albania closer to a narco–authoritarian model. According to them, this model poses a serious threat to regional security and the EU enlargement process.

The resolution also calls on the EU and the United States to condition Albania’s integration process on measurable progress in the rule of law, the fight against corruption, and electoral integrity.

Furthermore, it emphasizes that the resolution demands the imposition of targeted sanctions against individuals involved in organized crime and corruption, as well as support for the establishment of a technical government that ensures credible elections.
