During the annual Summit for the Process of Collaboration of South-Eastern Europe (SEECP), Kosovo’s president, Vjosa Osmani made an appeal to the countries, who have yet to recognize the independence of Kosovo, to do this as soon as possible, while reminding the European Union about their earlier promise on lifting the visa obligations for citizens of Kosovo.
In her statement before representatives of member states in this forum, Osmani spoke on the challenges facing the region, the process of integration into the EU, as well as the chance for regional collaboration.
Osmani especially put an emphasis on the role Kosovo is playing in the creation and preservation of peace and stability in the region.
While speaking on the importance of regional collaboration, Osmani emphasized that collaboration is strictly necessary, but it should take place by respecting one another.
“Regional collaboration is necessary, but it is only possible if it is based on the recognition and respect for one another,” she said.
According to Osmani, the region has made great efforts in building a better future for all citizens.
“We are facing similar challenges but we can influence the creation of a safer environment and the increase of security and stability in the region. The Republic of Kosovo has created a clear trust that the Euro-Atlantic integration is the goal of its citizens, but we would like to be given certainty that this process will be sped up, in order to guarantee peace and stability in the region, but also to increase the standard of living for citizens in our region,” stated Osmani.
She said that the future of Kosovo is in the European Union and NATO, while reminding the EU that it should keep its promise regarding visa liberalization for Kosovo.
“The same way we are moving fast toward the integration of our country, by fulfilling all prerequisite conditions, the EU should also value the commitment of the citizens of Kosovo and keep its promise regarding the liberalization of visas for our citizens, but also for a faster integration of all countries of the region into the EU,” concluded president Osmani.
