Professors are back in protest against the non-realization by the government of their 9 demands for higher education.
This Thursday they were in front of the Parliament, on the day when the 2023 budget is being discussed.
“How can we grow the education system with a 3% budget, when for 10 years you’ve been promising to make it 10%? It has always remained below 3%, so neither the development of higher education nor pre-university education or primary education can be expected with this miserable financial treatment. It is necessary to evaluate not only the budget which is allocated for higher education institutions for departments and faculties but also the way in which this budget is spent”, said the president of the Union of University Employees Sander Kovaci.
The decision of the Ministry of Education on the formation of Independent Public Higher Education Institutions has not been received well by the pedagogues.
“By means of this kind of decision-making, the already aggravated economic situation of public universities deepens even further; it allows for fewer obligations on the government“, claimed Kovaci.
‘A law that was made without asking the academic staff at all, without considering the conditions of the school system in Albania. This is a great damage that indirectly and fatally affects public education”, said teacher Lush Susaj.
Professors warned of further protests which could be followed up by a boycott of the exam season if their demands are not met.
