The Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mirela Kumbaro, focused on the last year’s and this year’s objectives.

In a statement to the press, she said that this year, they will focus on implementing a large project to clean the Vjosa river.

According to her, $80 million dollars will be invested in this project.

“We have just carried out the complete reconstruction of the Ministry of the Environment, which is related to the circular economy. What is also interesting is environmental education. In 2023, we will start with two investments in the IPA program. We talk about cleanliness, but we don’t know where the waste goes. The Kukes District and Gjirokastra District will also benefit from several investments. In terms of the Vjosa river, I have a very big plan that we prepared back in 2022. Equipping all the municipalities that flow into the Vjosa river with wastewater treatment facilities is a revolution because there are 7 municipalities that will be equipped. We cannot talk about Vjosa as the queen of Europe’s rivers while today, 7 municipalities’ waste is poured into it due to the lack of this investment. This investment amounts to $80 million dollars,” said Kumbaro.
