Tirana’s Prosecution Office launched a probe into the incident that took place Monday afternoon in the capital, where police officers violently harassed a reporter.
Euronews Albania journalist Eni Ferhati said that Ergys Gjençaj was called in for questioning over the circumstances that led to the violent incident.
Later on, the prosecution is expected to summon the five police officers involved.
The investigation is being carried by the Internal Affairs and Complaints Service.
Camera footage shows the journalist being held on the ground by a police officer, following a drug bust gone wrong that saw the suspect flee with his vehicle.
After the suspect, a 26-year-old later identified as Gazmir Cani, the police turned to the journalist who caught the entire scene on camera.
Police authorities claim they detained the journalist because he filmed the police operation.
