The Special Appellate College (KPA) discharged prosecutor Besim Hajdarmataj, a move that overturns a previous ruling of the Independent Qualification Commission (KPK) which reinstated him in duty.
Hajdarmataj is one of the prosecutors that probed into former interior minister Saimir Tahiri. KPA argued that the former official had interfered in some investigations, a claim rejected by him.
However, international observers have widely contested the former prosecutor’s claims, particularly Theo Jacobs, who said that Hajdarmataj dodged a case after learning that one of the defendants was his acquaintance.
In 2019, KPK made a positive evaluation of his work and reinstated Hajdarmataj in office. But during a second scanning, several problems arose, prompting the Public Commissioner to appeal the decision.
Hajdarmataj graduated with a law degree in 1997 and has been a prosecutor since 2001.
Initially, he worked at the First Instance Court of Tirana, a place he held until 2007. Then he was transferred to Kurbin, and in 2013 to Durres.
Two years later, he led the Prosecution of Serious Crimes, and in 2018 he got transferred to Pogradec.
