The State Police and the Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) worked throughout the night to finalize a complex operation.
This joint endeavor spanning in cities such as Tirana, Shkodra and Kukës brought down key figures of organized crime, including officials from the State Police and prosecutors who were implicated in criminal activities.
Among the arrested are prosecutor Xhevahir Lita, former chief of the Operational Forces Oltion Bistri, and businessman Pëllumb Gjoka. They are accused of corruption, misuse of funds and money laundering.
Minister of Interior Taulant Balla commended the significance of this operation, emphasizing that it showcases “the unwavering determination of our law enforcement agencies to eradicate crime across all spectrums and fortify the rule of law in the Republic of Albania”.
Balla extended his appreciation to the leaders and officers donning the blue uniforms for their professionalism and, most importantly, for ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information until the operation’s completion.
Furthermore, the Minister expressed full confidence in the strengthened collaboration between law enforcement agencies and their collective fight against crime, both within and beyond the state’s borders. He believes that this united approach will elevate Albania to a new level of law enforcement, bolstering the nation’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
Balla also took the opportunity to commend the State Police for their recent string of successful operations within a 48-hour timeframe. In addition to dismantling an organized crime network engaged in computer fraud through deceptive call centers, they also targeted another criminal group involved in fraudulent schemes and tax evasion.
