A demonstration was sparked in Prizren on Friday in response to a performance held as part of the opening ceremony of the DokuFest International Short and Documentary Film Festival, hosted in the same city.
The call for the protest was issued by the Council of the Islamic Community of Prizren.
In reaction to the incident, the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK) expressed their concerns, reporting an attack on the team from the Nacionale portal. Journalist Vullnet Krasniqi and cameraman Arbër Latifi were targeted during the protest on August 11 in Prizren.
“This incident is entirely unacceptable and presents a grave threat to the safety of journalists. AGK is urging the immediate apprehension of the assailants by the police and their swift accountability through the judicial process,” AGK posted on their Facebook page.
Protesters gathered at the Fountain Square, holding banners with messages such as “Bad DokuFest”, “Rejecting Degeneration”, “Keep Drugs Away from Our Children”, “Preserving Prizren’s Historical Legacy”, and more.

Similar slogans like “No to Tax Misuse” and “Oppose Demeaning Actions” were also displayed in the main mosque courtyard.

For this year’s festival kickoff, the Canadian group “Peaches” performed in support of transgender rights and other topics that are often considered sensitive within society.
According to the festival organizers, only ticket holders above 18 years of age were granted access to the opening event, where the contentious performance took place.
The central theme of this year’s DokuFest is artificial intelligence.
The festival commenced on August 4 and will conclude on August 12.
As has become customary, it has breathed fresh life into Prizren, attracting numerous visitors from various corners of the world.
