Citizens gathered in front of the Prime Minister’s Office today, to protest against the recently announced price hikes for bread, coffee, electricity, fuel, etc.
In addition, the opposition has made several calls to action, to have as many citizens join the rally as possible.
On the other hand, The US embassy has urged citizens to exercise self-restraint and avoid large gathering due to the COVID pandemic.
Economy expert, Pano Soko took to the microphone and accused government officials for the population sinking into poverty so that they can be more easily controlled, while they themselves get richer by the day.
“They [politicians] don’t know, they have never been to a store before to check out prices. This whole thing is done to keep people poor because this is how they can control them. This is why, we need to come together and face them,” – said Soko.
In turn, attorney Adriatik Lapaj stated that people should say ‘No’ to the price hikes. Lapaj said that “the third generation of emigrants are leaving Albania, so that a small minority can get richer”.
“Our problems can only be solved by raising barricades and saying no to the rise of energy prices,” – said Lapaj.
The protest wrapped up without reports of any incidents as several police officers ‘protected’ the building by forming a cordon in front of the prime minister’s office.
