Thousands of people gathered in the center of Belgrade on Saturday, marching under the slogan “Serbia against violence”.

This was the eighth protest in the capital, which this time spread to 20 other cities.

Citizens’ anger is directed at President Aleksandar Vucic, the government and the media it controls, which critics say incite hatred and violence.

Demonstrators, including members of several opposition parties, demand the resignation of the directors of the public television service, members of the body that regulates the electronic media, the minister of the interior and the head of the Security Intelligence.

They also want an end to reality shows and media that promote violence. In the capital, protesters also blocked the national highway for several hours, causing chaos.

Mass protests started after two mass shootings that took place in Belgrade in May, where several children were also killed. This time, the protesters blocked the national highway.
