The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, paid tribute on the 27th anniversary of the Račak Massacre, pledging that the country’s institutions will not stop seeking justice for the crimes committed by Serbia against the Albanian population.
Kurti visited the memorial bearing the names of the 45 victims who were massacred by the regime led by Slobodan Milošević, stressing that those responsible must face justice.
“Twenty-seven years ago, from here in Račak, through Ambassador William Walker, the truth was revealed about war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of genocide committed by Serbia as a state against the Albanian people in Kosovo. After the Račak Massacre, international public opinion and Western diplomatic circles were awakened, made aware, and mobilized,” Kurti said.
“We are here together—as heads of institutions, with mayors and colleagues from the government and parliament, as well as other state officials—to express our grief for this open wound, which still lacks justice, and at the same time our commitment to remain engaged in bringing the perpetrators before the courts and punishing them for the atrocities committed 27 years ago. Glory to the 45 martyrs of Račak and the 11 martyrs of the nation, led by Commander Ahmet Kaçiku,” Kurti declared.
