Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is in Brussels for the 6th Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union, is expected to hold a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The news was announced in a statement published on the official website of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which reads: “On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, NATO Secretary General Mr. Mark Rutte will host the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama, at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.”

On Tuesday, the 6th Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union took place, during which four more negotiation chapters for EU membership were opened.

In a press conference with Denmark’s Minister for European Integration Jeppe Kofod and Danish Environment Minister, Rama said that this achievement is not simply a reward, but a daily commitment to meeting the challenges of the European process.

“We know there are challenges and efforts must be made, but we also know that there is no other path. This is the first time in our history that we freely choose whom we want to marry. In the past, we were forced into marriage with other empires, but this is an empire we truly want to be part of,” Rama concluded.
