Prime Minister Edi Rama made an unannounced visit to the Municipality of Vlora on Thursday, where he held a closed-door meeting with local officials.

During the meeting, Rama expressed strong dissatisfaction with the management of the tourist season, ongoing issues with the drinking water supply, and numerous citizen complaints about the quality of public services.

Sources for Euronews Albania reported that Rama requested the resignation of several municipal department heads, along with some regional directors.

According to the same sources, Rama was particularly harsh with the Mayor of Vlora, raising serious concerns over the drinking water supply and the handling of urban waste. The Prime Minister stressed that the situation is unacceptable and demanded direct accountability from local leadership.

In addition, he called for the removal of part of the municipal administration. Rama also criticized the district’s MPs for their poor performance in recent months.

The surprise visit and demands for sweeping changes in the local administration come at a time when water shortages at the height of the tourist season have caused widespread public frustration.
