Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama gave an interview to Britain’s Times Radio, in which he described statements by British politicians regarding the number of Albanian prisoners in the UK as a “mosaic of lies.”

Rama said the entire narrative had been used to promote Brexit, calling Nigel Farage’s claim that “1 in every 50 Albanians in Britain is in prison” an “absurdity.”

“There is a lot of nonsense in all of this, because there is not a significant number of Albanian prisoners in the United Kingdom that stands out from the overall prison population or from other nationalities. So, it is just a small part of the larger mosaic of lies and self-deluding arguments that were used to convince the British people to leave the European Union. Where on earth will you find the people to build your houses, to serve you coffee, to drive your taxis and trucks, and so on?” Rama said.

He stressed that many key sectors in the UK would face serious difficulties functioning without the work of Albanian migrants.

“Where will you find the people to build your homes, serve your coffee, drive your taxis and trucks?” the Albanian prime minister added.

Rama also repeated his public invitation to Nigel Farage to visit Albania and see the reality of the country for himself:

“He has said he will come for a visit, and I will be very happy to meet him. It’s a good opportunity to get to know a man of great talent and intelligence, despite his political theatrics, and to show him the beauties of Albania. Maybe we can even convince him to choose Albania as his holiday destination,” Rama said.

It is worth recalling that Rama and Farage exchanged remarks over the summer, precisely on the issue of Albanian migrants in British prisons.
