Prime Minister Edi Rama was welcomed today by his British counterpart Rishi Sunak in Downing Street, United Kingdom, in the first official visit of an Albanian prime minister to this historic building

. The meeting evaluated the progress made in the fight against illegal migration in compliance with the joint agreements signed for this purpose.

“Last year we signed a communiqué to fight illegal migration and I am very satisfied with the progress made in this direction”, – said the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the meeting.

For his part, Prime Minister Rama emphasized that this visit marks a special moment for cooperation between the countries, in particular to join forces and do the best to attack criminal networks and also to avoid innocent people falling prey to these networks.

“This is a special moment for cooperation. As you said, we have joined forces with the full conviction that we must do our best to crack down on criminal networks and also to avoid innocent people falling into the clutches of these networks. At the same time, I want to thank you for the opportunity to point out that just as not all British people are “James Bond” or “Mr. Bean”, and not all Albanians are characters from “Taken”.

Just as the boy who comes on a boat is not just an Albanian, but part of a bigger picture, so Dua Lipa is not just a British singer, but an Albanian immigrant who came here like many others who have come to build, take care, cook and sing for you and we want to make sure that this community feels not only safe, but also honored here”, said Prime Minister Rama, among other things.
