Prime Minister Edi Rama said today, during his speech at the opening of the 2025–2026 Academic Year of the College of Europe in Tirana, that a divided Europe is easier to break apart, while a united Europe becomes unstoppable.

He insisted in his remarks that Albania and the Western Balkans bring peace and unity to the Union, emphasizing that this is not just a formal process on paper, but also a historical philosophy—regardless of whether the countries will have veto power or a vote.

“Reunification expands peace. In the history of EU enlargement, each enlargement has not expanded itself, but peace. After many wars and conflicts with one another, reunification speaks about the unification of Europe. Thessaloniki 2023 was a commitment—reunification brings new energy and new opportunities. This is what happened with the first waves of enlargement, and this is what will happen with the reunification of the Western Balkans with the EU. Because no country becomes a member without contributing all its energies.

Reunification protects Europe from itself. A divided Europe is easy to fracture, and a united Europe is hard to defeat. These are demonstrated by many facts,” the Prime Minister said, addressing the audience, including the entire diplomatic corps of ambassadors in Tirana.

“When it comes to Albania, we continue our work and the results in reforms, strengthening institutions, and our proven patience—even with some countries and ambassadors, such as the Netherlands, though now I am very grateful; at the time, I had no way to explain myself. We seek Europe so that Europe can see peace,” Prime Minister Rama added.
