Prime Minister Edi Rama was present this Tuesday at the presentation of the new Director of the National Agency for Information Society, Igli Tafa. During his remarks, Rama also addressed the justice reform, stating that the system is still neither fully functional nor fair.
According to him, the actions of the justice system carry consequences that are borne by individuals whom he described as innocent. He added that in the end justice will prevail, but not without cost.
“Another revolution is taking place — harsher, with more wounds and greater intensity — yet a necessary one. It is the revolution of the justice system toward a fair and functional system. We are still very far from that goal, but the path is irreversible. Unfortunately, in your virtual world everything operates through algorithms, and if failures in your virtual world mean a freeze or shutting down a computer, in the world of justice these failures happen on people’s skin. It is not a computer that is turned off, but a person’s life that is placed in an unenviable and deeply difficult position when they are innocent.
So if there is an investigation involving AKSHI, in a just world everyone should be presumed innocent; yet they are presumed guilty. It is a difficult moment. Some of you live behind computer screens, and when confronted with such brutality, you may feel destabilized in your work process. In the end, justice prevails. There is a cost, but it prevails,” he said.
