The head of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, announced that he will not run for the leadership of the party in the upcoming internal party elections.

Following a meeting of the AAK General Council, Haradinaj said that the party elections will be held from February 20 to June 6.

“I will not run for president of the Alliance,” Haradinaj stated, noting that there are several reasons for this decision.

First, he said, is the long period he has spent in leadership, specifically since May 2000, when the party was founded, as well as the party’s poor results in the last two elections held on February 9 and December 28, 2025.

In the most recent elections, AAK managed to secure six seats in the Parliament of Kosovo.

Haradinaj announced that so far Ardian Gjini has declared his candidacy for the new leader of AAK, but he said there may be other candidates.

Asked whether he would be a candidate for president, Haradinaj said he would not.

Regarding the party’s position on voting for Vjosa Osmani for a second term as president, Haradinaj said that AAK has not yet made a decision on the matter.

Haradinaj was elected as a member of parliament in the tenth legislature, which was constituted a day earlier. In the December elections, he was AAK’s candidate for prime minister.

In the past, Haradinaj has served twice as Prime Minister of Kosovo.
