Region Leading in Loans: Tirana Holds 67%, Elbasan Sees Strong Growth

The Tirana region holds the largest share of lending in the country for individuals, accounting for nearly 70% of the total. However, this year, the strongest growth in loan demand has been recorded in Elbasan, with an increase of around 7.5%.

Among the 12 regions in the country, Tirana maintains the record for the highest volume of individual loans, while Elbasan has shown the fastest growth in bank lending during the first half of the year.

In Elbasan, residents are increasingly seeking loans for consumer financing or home purchases, bringing the total loan amount to 8.8 billion lekë, marking a growth of around 7.5%.

According to the latest data from the Bank of Albania, Tirana leads in individual loans with 230 billion lekë, though with a more moderate growth of 6.1%.

The capital is followed by Durrës, with 22 billion lekë in loans and an increase of 5.4% compared to the first quarter, while Vlorë ranks third with 9.9 billion lekë and the same 5.4% growth.

The total loan amount in Fier reached 9.3 billion lekë, rising by 5.2%, whereas in Elbasan it climbed to 8.8 billion lekë, marking a record growth of 7.4%.

The loan growth trend by region has followed a similar pattern to 2023, when Elbasan also ranked first for its high growth rate in the first half of the year.

Nevertheless, Tirana continues to dominate, accounting for over 67% of the total loans granted nationwide.
